In the summer of 2018, I got the opportunity to go and volunteer in Malawi, as part of my experience I worked with ‘Changing Stars Malawi’ a charity based in a rural village lakeside to the incredible Lake Malawi. Their mission is to create a legacy by inspiring, nurturing and providing education to a vulnerable community, through Mango Tree Nursery and their community programme. I completely fell in love with the atmosphere and kindness of the amazing work Changing Stars does for a community during my stay.
During my stay I helped paint their brand-new nursery building, creating an interactive classroom that will benefit all their children who attend. In communities such as this education is so important and what stood out for me is that you can tell how much the children who attend Mango Tree Nursery love to learn!!
Changing stars also helps the community by organising activities for the children, during my stay I helped with organising and playing in a netball tournament for the girls in the village, I was overwhelmed with the participation and enjoyment every got out of an amazing afternoon.
The phrase Sindibwela ku midzi was repeatedly said throughout my stay (also a caption on Instagram) as I simply did not want to come home and away from this incredible community and work done by changing stars!!
